Measure Once, Cut Twice

Have you ever heard the saying that you should measure twice and cut once, well this afternoon I measured once and cut twice.

The windscreen wiper blades on the car needed replacing, as they had started to become brittle and crack. After picking up a new pair from Super Cheap Auto, I set about removing the old ones and fitting the new pair.

Ordinarily when I replace wiper blades, I remove both windscreen wipers, cut both and then refit them. For some reason today, I removed one and replaced it; unfortunately for me – I happened to remove the shorter of the two blades first. You can surely see where this is going, when I removed the first wiper blade I stupidly cut both at the same time and of course one of the blades was about seven centimetres too short.

Moral of the story:

Always measure twice and cut once. It’s easy to measure a second time and very difficult to uncut something.

Colin McRae, 1968 – 2007

Rally car champion Colin McRae has been killed in a helicopter accident on Sunday 14th September 2007. This is a dark day for the rally driving community and motorsport enthusiasts a like around the world. Colin McRae, his son and two friends were returning from a flight in the helicopter registered and being piloted by McRae, when it crashed only a short distance from the McRae property.

Breaking News, I Have Broadband

I have been struggling to get broadband after I moved house at the start of June. As soon as we had our phone connected, I submitted a relocation order with my existing broadband internet provider and it was knocked back. Since then, I have resubmitted new applications numerous times and they were knocked back as well. With nothing to lose, I even tried using Bigpond in some sort of vein hope that the myth was true – it was rejected as well.

I resubmitted my application yet again last Friday and hoped that a port had become available on the RIM I am connected to. To be honest, after having the previous six applications rejected over the last two month – I wasn’t going to hold my breath. This time however, something changed and it was approved.

I have broadband again, woohoo!

Benjamin James Lattimore

Benjamin James Lattimore, born 16 April 2007 and weighing 7 pound 8 ounces.April 16th this year marked the arrival of Benjamin James Lattimore, the first child and son of Andrew and Belinda. Benjamin was born at 8.04AM and weighed in at a healthy 7 pound and 8 ounces. A little while after his birth, Andrew and Belinda asked if Claire and I would like to Benjamin’s God Parents; which we were very excited to accept.

Today Andrew and Belinda held a naming day for Benjamin at their house in Ipswich, which was performed by the same wedding celebrant that married them nine years earlier. The ceremony didn’t take too long and had some nice personal touches, which was really great. Everyone was pleased that so many family members and close friends were able to make the trip for the naming day and it was really good to meet some new faces.

It is pretty exciting that our collective families are starting to expand. In a couple years time we’ll have a tribe of little Lattimore kiddies kicking around the place. Claire and I are pretty chuffed that Andrew and Belinda offered the role of God Parent’s to us. I didn’t realise it initially but it comes with quite a bit of responsibility; as I understand it, we would be considered as a legal guardian if required to be in the future.

Enough with the words, enjoy some superbly cute photos of Benjamin:

Debunking The Bigpond Broadband Signup Myth

Since moving house at the start of June, I’ve been without any internet connectivity at home. It’s surprising how often you use the internet at home (not including the geek side of things) and I cannot believe how much Claire and I are noticing that it isn’t available.

As soon as the home phone was connected, I submitted a relocation order to Internode in hopes that Telstra would re-provision my ADSL from my old address. Of course, I couldn’t believe it when the first application was rejected due to no ADSL port availability. Expecting that this was a temporary set back, I resubmitted the application a further two times to Internode hoping that it would go through – no luck and the same reason stated by Telstra.

Having been around the ADSL and broadband scene for quite some time, I thought it pertinent to try The Bigpond Strategy. If you’re not familiar with The Bigpond Strategy, it is really quite simple:

Submit an ADSL application with Telstra Bigpond and watch in amazement as it is magically approved when everyone else was denied.

Well I’m here to inform you with a heavy heart, that The Bigpond Strategy did in fact not work and even Telstra Bigpond rejected my ADSL application with the same reason as stated by Internode.

Its been about a fortnight since I submitted the application to Bigpond, so it’s time to resubmit it and try again.
