If you haven’t seen the new TV series featuring David Duchovny named Californication, you need to do yourself a favour and watch it. David Duchovny plays Hank Moody, a previously successful but currently troubled novelist who struggles with his life after separating from his long time partner. Channel Ten are airing it on a Monday night at 9:30 and it is spectacular; if you liked Sex & The City – you’ll love Californication.

I think the writers are trying too hard with the “sexy” content. Some of the scenes so far have been blatant plants that add nothing to the story, which so far is quite lacking. The language also seems forced and does not help.
Don’t get me wrong, I like a good sex scene and can handle a bit of bad language, but this show needs to work a little harder.
I don’t think it is doing anything that Sex & The City wasn’t already doing with respect to sex and/or use of language.
What I do know is that I’m really enjoying watching Californication and each time I watch it, I am literally laughing out loud at some of the things that are said or done in each episode.
Whilst it is receiving a reasonable amount of criticism in the media for various things, the public certainly seems to be embracing Duchovny’s latest creation – it has pulled over a million viewers for each episode; even with the 9:30pm time slot!
I am a huuuuuge fan of Sex and the City however I can’t stand Californication. I just don’t find the crass humour funny, I think the jokes are taken too far. Basically, it’s just a show about sex and boobs, very boring for a female to watch. At least SATC dealt (albeit mildly) with the lives of single thirtysomethings, Californication deals with a self-indulgent, monotonous grump getting his rocks off with a bevvy of no-so-smart beauties.
Sorry to burst that idea, but Stacey didn’t like SATC but found the one episode of Californication that we have seen so far pretty damn funny.
And surely that description of Californication could be applied to Kim Cattrall’s character from SATC?
Lucky I didn’t watch SATC for Kim Cattrall’s character :)
Thought I better watch it and see what all the fuss is about. I watched the first three shows – LOVE IT! I was a little disturbed seeing Gracey (from the Nanny is such a compromising position)! But once I got over that….. I think it will be ok. Worth a watch!
Glad to see you liked it Belinda, I just can’t help but laugh at each episode – I’m really enjoying it.
