Australian Idol Winner: Kate DeAraugo Vs Emily Williams

A new article about Australian Idol 2006 finalists Damien Leith & Jessica Mauboy is now available.

Tonight saw the culmination of the third Australian Idol. For the last three months, contestants have been battling and belting out their biggest and brightest notes, in an attempt progress through the aggressive selection progress to make it to the grand final at the Sydney Opera House. What happened tonight, is sure to have gob smacked a vast portion of the Australian public. In some strange twist, Kate DeAraugo managed to out vote Emily Williams to win the grand final.

Kate’s performance throughout Australian Idol has been quite good, however compared to other singers – her overall package and skills were lacking. She has progressed through the weeks, by giving good performances and relying on other singers delivering an ok performance. As the competition crept towards the business end, her weaknesses were starting to show. Week after week, Mark would criticise her for not letting go of her voice, not connecting with the music, not transcending. Yet through all the criticism, the public continued to vote for her.

In stark contrast, Emily Williams has been delivering high grade performances week after week. She has received the ultimate ‘good job’ stamp (read: Touchdown!) from Mark no less than three times in the last few weeks. They suggest that she do something, next week she comes out and delivers it bigger and better than they could have imagined. Kyle went as far to say, that he hasn’t heard someone sing Whitney Huston, that isn’t Whitney Huston and make it worth listening too – yet he gives complements like that to Emily.

I have to believe that Kate DeAraugo has won Australian Idol, not through her ability to sing, nor her ability to perform – but in her Barbie Doll like appearance. No sane person could honestly believe that Kate was a superior singer to Emily, yet Kate stands in utter disbelief that she has won. The organisers of Australian Idol, need to some how factor in who is voting – not just the raw number of votes. Assigning the same importance to a 12 year olds vote as to an adults isn’t fair to the performers, they are just being cheated.

One can only hope that Emily Williams soars to the top, just like her amazing voice.

  1. i absoulutely hate kate i love emily she is my tiple idol she should have won kate i hate you you stink

  2. #200 “over diplomat!’

Any judgement I have made of Emily’s technical vocal capacity, comes from a learned position and I have backed every opinion up with a reasoning behind it, so at least my judgements are not false. It is also not for you to determine if my opinions as to this are “too judgemental”either, but thank you for you opinion. You are entitled to that at least.

I do have a tip for you though. If you don’t like what I have to say, you can always just scroll your eyes to someone elses posts.

    Keep it,

You are welcome and thank you too! I also hope that some peaceful resolution can be made and hope it happens very soon, but unfortunately from the events I saw on the news last night, I don’t think our wishes will be granted. The media isn’t helping the situation with their biased “spin” on it all either.

All the best to you and your loved ones for Christmas.

    PEACE..

  3. Oh no yu didn’t, everything that I’ve read through your comments suggest ‘YOUR ALL THAT’, like you said everyone is entitled to their opinions but in saying this you obviously feel that your opinion over rides everyone elses. Are you some sort of Professional in any of the music fields? I have looked at everyone else’s but your comments are just too like i said ALL THAT.

Like I said, put your money where your mouth is and enter the next Auss Idol, well c u is professional then!!!

    Over IT Diplomat!!

  4. Hey Diplomat,

YOU ROCK! Finally someone with intelligence. I agree with everything you said.

What really got me about Emily was the fact that she tried to get sympathy votes because she hsa a child – then it backfired on her when the public found out that she sent the kid to live with the inlaws because she couldn’t handle her. Her screeching voice made me want to throw something at the TV. Oh and another thing Maricaand Mark being all over her like a rash made me want to vomit.

They were such pricks for their reaction to Kate winning the comp!

What a slap in the face to Emily because Lee, Dan and Kate were signed – but not her.

Personally I was rootin for Anne.

Anyway Diplomat – You are right on the spot!

  5. Interesting to read everyone’s opinion but can not understand how a music show like Australian Idol has turned into a political racist show.
At the end of the day, all the Australian Idol participants are WINNERS
I’m sure they all are grateful for the opportunity given. They have all been exposed to the public and received so much publicity. I’m sure it will be a highlight of their lives that they will never forget as most have mentioned.
Kate was voted as the Winner by the public. THE PUBLIC CHOSE THE WINNER. We are talking of millions of votes. I find it very difficult to believe that these millions got to gether and voted on racial background. Come on people….we only live once and we should be grateful for the variety of culture we have and appreciate it. Emily was a great performer but I found it very frustrating when she could not speak or bring out her personality. As a performer you need to present yourself strongly in every aspect.

Good luck to Kate, Emily and all participants of Australian Idol 2005.

To the rest of you, have a great Xmas and New years and lets bring peace to this world. What ever race you are, I LOVE YOU

  6. ——————————-NEWSFLASH!————————————-

It is confirmed that Network Ten is officially renaming their No. 1 rating show. The ever popular “Australian Idol” will return to Ten in 2006 under the more appropriate name of “Australian Runner-Up”. Network executives revealed that the reason for the change lies in the popularity of the runner-up exceeding that of the winner in all three of the “Idol” series. The final name was decided upon via majority vote at a Ten board meeting last week. It is rumoured that 40% of the board disagreed with the new title, saying “Australian Idols” (plural) would be more fitting considering the assigned record company picks up both artists anyway. Auditions for Australian Runner-Up begin in Adelaide in May 2006.

  7. LOL!!!… Well dont Dirrrty. Very funny… If only it were true! Merry Xmas evry1! Can’t wait til Idol 2006 and when Emz brings out CD See you all again then BYE!

    ~Emily Rulz~

  8. LOL…LOL…LOL…LOL!!!!…

Oohh Dirrrty, I have to agree with ~Emily Rulz~, that was well done! Bring on Emily, I to can’t wait till she realises her CD. As for Idol 2006 I want be wasting my time watching it!! (what’s the point). Anyway, Merry Xmas all hope your day is bless with joy and lots of pressies, take care,be safe.

  9. Hey all,

Been reading alot of the conversations that have been discharged within this forum. Some have disgusted me I have to admit! as well as some have also made some value points. Nevertheless I’m not here to start any arguments what so ever. For the first time I actually sat back and watched Australian Idol from start to finish. Remembering seeing Emily and Kate strutting there stuff in front of the judges to proceed to the next level. In saying this I also remembered telling my girls that Emily and Kate would be the ones to watch through out the series. Yes Kate advanced to the top 12/13 and Emily via the wildcard, however as time passed on I found myself leaning more and more towards Emily, I dont care what you others might think but I felt Emily everytime she sang putting chills down my spine.

As for Kate I have nothing against her-(why should I!)….I wish her all the best on her new bound jorney, nevertheless on many occassions I felt Kate wasn’t performing to the ability I thought she could, however that’s my hypothesis. I also thought it was quite freaky when it was brought up how the previous idol winners where all in the same position being in the “middle” of there group photo.

In all I wish all the top 4 contestants, who got as far as they did all the best in there new embarking futures. Lets not have any more negativity! Mery Xmas and a joyful New Year.

  10. Hi i actually think that most people thought kate should have won because she is australian. i mean it has all got to do with racism. People wanted kate to win because she is aussie. I have read that emily shouldn’t win coz she doesn’t look australian. I think u guys all need to calm down and go and read the bible it may calm u down a bit. And stop the swearing there is no need for it. Have i swore once in this paragraph NO i haven’t. Its because i follow the lord. I have self control. racism is wrong and it says in the bible. So just because emily isn’t aussie looking it doesnt mean you can make mean and nasty comments about her. I thought she is a lovely girl and always will be. Dont judge people by the way they look coz we all have a problem and it is called sin. I is in the middle is SIN

  11. Hi sarah,

I agree with what you have said, I’m not christian, anglican, however understand. There certainly has been alot of racism going on in this forum and it certainly has been very profound in fact very sicking to read I must say.

I actually had the privilage in attending and seeing one of the series of Idol live in Sydney this year being when they did the motown night. Oh my gosh what can I say the vibe was really pumping that night it was differently ecstatic when I heard Emily sing River Deep Mountain High, in watching her get that “TOUCHDOWN” she was fantastic in also saying Hi to her at the end of the show.

Yes! your right she is a lovely person. So all the negativity that has been occcurring with the racism comments and the comments people have been saying about her along with others I found to be offensive. Get a life you “fools ” maybe look into your own lives, stop and think before you criticise others, think about there feelings! and how this is conflicting on them in what you are saying! perhaps you dont have a life therefore have to castigate on others. “WE ARE ALL EQUAL”

    Response:
If you had read through all my comments as you claim, you would realise that I stated early on that I have been a professional in the music industry for decades, therefore my comments regarding emily’s vocal ability (or lack there of) have been purely from a professional and technical level. I have been singing since I was 5 and was classically trained and know from this, that there are just certain things you should do to make the most of your instrument and Emily didn’t do any of them, hence my comments. I have not commented on her looks or ethnicity as to factors why I didn’t want her to win as I believe how someone looks or their country of origin is irrelevant. I have to say though that I DO have issue with only a “resident” being allowed to be in AUSTRALIAN Idol. Despite that though, Emily did not win because when it came down to it, her fans did not want to spend the $$ to make it happen. That is all it would have taken to ensure Emily got the contract, but where were they all when it came to the crunch? Not SMSing or dialing her 1902 number that’s for sure!

Again, if you had read all my comments as you claim you will also note that I stated I am a 40 year old woman, so my auditioning for Idol next year is out of the question due to two reasons and those being; there is an age restriction for audition (29 I think was this years) and also, I already have an established career and don’t need a “leg up” through a reality television show to better it.

As for you claiming I believe that my opinions over ride everyone elses? Not necessarily but if that is your perception then so be it, however it does have to be said that the only thing you have given opinion on is ME and the allegation that you are ‘over me”. Perhaps if you put in viable commentary on your take on the The Final between Emily and Kate and your reasons behind backing your favourite, then you may have a case. That IS what this forum topic is about. Emily vs Kate and not your perception of me.

Bono’s Lover.. Thank you! :-) I was also mortified with Mark and Marcia’s response. It showed an utter lack of professionalism on their part. Mark’s extreme bias through the final 13 shows was nothing short of nauseating. I really wanted the final 4 to be Kate, Dan E, Anne and Natalie Zahra. I can’t complain though as I got half my wish fulfilled! lol I have no doubt that ANNE and NATALIE will be signed with Sony BMG soon as well!!! (I know for a fact that they are) It looks like Emily’s nose and her “fans” will be even more out of joint after this.

Back to reality……*applauding wildly” WELL SAID! I agree with you totally!!

To all on this forum, I wish you a wonderful festive season and all the best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy new year!

  13. SHELLY4131: KATE ROCKS!!!
I’m so glad Kate won! Kate has been the best Australian Idol winner so far, and I reckon she’ll achieve greatly and I wish her all the best

Emily wasn’t my fave, but I guess all she wanted was just wanted to win. Although she is an O.K singer, Kate rocks by FAR! Kate deserved to win! By the way, she DOES NOT have tuckshop lady arms… Shark Boy!

  14. hey guys its sarah from 212 but i think u guys are going on with a load of rubbish . Thaks smiles for being on my side u rock. I am 13 years of age and i am not being as half as ridiculous as u other guys are but Emily is australian but her parents were born in a different country and emily was obviously born in australia. so she speaks english. Well why didn’t paulini win because she is a different culture born in australia but looks are different. Thats what gets them out. I think emily has a much stronger voice then kate and dude in 214 u wouldn’t know anything just because u sing nothing to do with it. Emily has dark skin and paulini has dark skin it does tell a story. People would not be bothered to dial or sms if they love that person so much. People who choose other people coz there from a different culture are wrong its wrong and its not very nice. i think they deserve better wat did they ever do to u!!!

  15. Sarah,

Emily was born and bred in NZ and only moved to Australia a couple of years ago. She is not an Australian citizen. She has temporary residency only.

Racism has nothing at all to do with who has won or who hasn’t won Idol through the series’. Guy Sebastian is of Sri Lankan descent, and Casey is an Australian Aboriginal, so your arguement regarding why Paulini and Emily not winning is truly moot.

Your comments regarding SMSing etc was truly nonsensical, considering it was the people’s vote that ensured kate won.

Regarding your claim too that Emily’s voice was stronger..lol Louder and higher to the point of screeching does not mean stronger in any sense of the word.

You claim you are only 13 and it shows.

  16. HELLO DIPLOMAT,
Give Sarah a chance… yes she maybe only 13, but its her opinion. There’s nothing wrong with young gals to think highly of other contestants (other than your TRUE Champion, Kate).

Yes, obviously you do have decades of experience and no doubt very knowledgeable in your own right to comment from a musical perspective. However, for a young gal who appreciates Emily’s singing, let alone Paulini for that matter is OKAY!

Even tho Emily is NZ born with samoan descent, NZ’ers do not require a visa to work or need to apply for permanent residency. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s my understanding. Kiwi’s can stay in Australia for as long as they want without any problems. My brother is NZ born and has lived in Australia on his NZ Citizenship for 20 years now.

I DO agree that its not based on RACISM as it was based on PUBLIC VOTES making Kate the overall Winner for “Idol 2005”. Face it EMILY FANS!!

    SARAH,
What you have to understand is that it was not based on RACISM, cos if it was … Paulini would NEVER have received a contract at all! Also, Paulini came first in another show which Jay Laga’ia hosted before she entered Australian Idol 2003. As you know, Paulini came 4th and had the unique opportunity to release her own album.

You have to appreciate that there’s always going to be 1st / 2nd place and unfortunately in this case, Emily DID take 2nd place. This doesn’t mean Emily will lose out on anything, it just means that all EMILY FANS have to be a little more patient. I too, am waiting for that to happen, but until then, its the waiting game.

If you believe in the bible, then HUMILITY will see Emily through cos if its God’s will from your eyes, Emily will one day have the opportunity to do the same as Paulini. Be ready when that time does come, cos no doubt you’ll be the first in the queue! Hang in there! God Bless…

  17. The debate re Emily & Kate is like comparing apples with pears. Emily has world class potential in the R&B and Hip Hop musc industry, IF nutured professionally. Emily’s choice of songs and her performance was unfortunately, way beyond comprehension for most of the Idol viewers. ie they could not relate to world class talent when they heard it. On the other hand, they could relate to Kate. I agree Kate should be the (short term) winner, but Emily in the long run, will have a long and successful career in music, IF managed properley. Idol was just a great avenue to show case this amazing talent.

  18. SMILES,
Racism was brought up by certain individuals running down Emily’s background and ethnic culture as to why it got really nasty. Let’s hope this has ended now.

    LIKE YOUR TITLE : –
Smile awhile and give your face a lift.
Raise your hands to the ones who love you best.
Turn around, shake hands to the person next to you and greet them with a SMILE!!

(That’s what Jesus would do)… and that’s what we’re celebrating in a week’s time, even to those who do not believe!!

HALLELUJAH TO OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
    PEACE..

  19. Keep it Real,

Hope all is well with you and it seems there has been a truce of sorts with the gangs in Cronulla at least! :-) That’s a positive!!

I can appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but on the same token, so am I. I also have no issue with people liking Emily at all, gee even my 13 yr old does..lol My reply to Sarah was to this comment she made directly to me.

“I think emily has a much stronger voice then kate and dude in 214 u wouldn’t know anything just because u sing nothing to do with it. Emily has dark skin and paulini has dark skin it does tell a story. People would not be bothered to dial or sms if they love that person so much. People who choose other people coz there from a different culture are wrong its wrong and its not very nice. i think they deserve better wat did they ever do to u!!! ”

I believe my response to her was quite cordial considering her comments.

As for the residency V citizenship thing. Your brother has been here for 20 years so he is exempt from requiring a SCV. This came to fruition after an amendment to the migration laws in 1994 (so obviously he had been here a good many years before that came into place). On 1 September 1994, amendments made by The Migration Reform Act 1958, resulted in a number of changes to migration legislation. One of the changes introduced was the legal requirement for all non-citizens lawfully in Australia to hold visas and this includes New Zealanders. Also there was a bilateral agreement between NZ and Aust on 26 February 2001, New Zealand citizens who arrive in Australia on or after 27 February 2001 must apply for and be granted Australian permanent residence if they wish to access certain social security payments, obtain Australian citizenship or sponsor their family members for permanent residence. (Emily has been in OZ for only 3 years so she fits into post this timeframe…from what i have heard she has applied but has yet to be granted permanent residency…probably the long winded wait time has everything to do with the snailpace workings of Australian beaurocratic red tape..lol)

Now, whether Emily want’s to do any of the above is neither here nor there to me, but I just feel that it is wrong that a resident only can be in the running for in this case Australian Idol, because I can pretty much guarantee if an Aussie over in NZ as a resident only would have none and buckley’s chance of even being allowed to audition for NZ Idol, let alone proceed through it, because they are not a citizen of the country. I know that in the US and Canada and even NZ, only citizens of the country are allowed to be in it. THAT is the point I was making on it all.

Also, for the record, I have Paulini’s album and it is brilliant! I never expected anything less though! lol

I am also glad that we agree that Emily not winning is NOT a racism thing.

  20. WATS up peop[le i dont know why im on this gay web site ohwell i like lee hardings new single!! its hot like wasabi

  21. Hey all!

Just wanted to say… i loved the top 3 from the beginning. Congrats to lee on the contract, the single sounds awesome.
As for the Kate and Emily saga. It is true, her looks did help her win. Even though you can tell on screen, seing her in person the other day just hardened the fact that she has so much natural beauty and radience. As far as her voice goes, beautiful tone, and great pitch, but just lacks as great a range as Emily. Her next single “faded” (4 those who havnt heard it, is great!!! oh and like Casey’s second single, was written by sarah and lisa, the veronicas that is).

Emily’s talent exceeds that of anyone ever on idol, and the possible reason she didnt come thru in past seasons (and perhaps have won) was the fact that in the 1st year she was having a baby, and then baby was only 1 in the second year). I’m hoping to hear something from her very soon!

Before i move on to a quick “idol judges at finals section”. i would just like to correct those who claim dan england has signed a contract. He infact HAS NOT, but he has made a deal — he will be touring with Shannon Noll.

Ok now the judges at finals. I’ve always agreed with the judges opinions over public votes, and mainly because i had the same opinion. I didn’t really see idol 1, but in the second year, like myself, they wanted casey, because of not only her voice, but who she was as a person. And when she won, all three judges had big smiles and gave a standing ovation. (and even when casye performed at this years final, mark made a powerful delivery directly to casey herself and australia saying THATS why she won, because she is remarkable).
Now although Kate was great, you may have noticed when she was announced winner of idol, only kyle stood and clapped (in a manner that denotes dis interest), marcia sat in sadened disbelief and mark looked as though some1 had stabbed him.

Merry christmas and a happy new year…

  22. HEY DIPLOMAT,
Without a doubt, you too are also entitled to your opinion. It was just your last comment which killed your point to Sarah “you claim you are only 13 and it shows”.

Thanks for the the explanation of the residency law in Australia. That makes sense now as to why Emily is only a temporary resident.

Its a difficult one about who enters Idol Competitions. I am only a permanent resident of NZ and have all the rights of a NZ Citizen. I think the Producers / Directors etc should seriously look at only permanent residency and citizenships to apply so it keeps the Competition tight. Its only fair to the Australians or other ethnic groups who have permanent residencies. I agree where you are coming from as it should be standard like the US, Canada and NZ.

Paulini is such a lovely lady with a beautiful personality and a great voice as to why I believe she received a contract. I am yet to buy her CD, but I haven’t seen it in NZ. Must look properly – maybe this will be my Christmas Gift to myself. We have all of Guy Sebastian’s albums – we love his style too!!

Totally agree with Emily not winning cos of RACISM. People can believe what they want to believe, but at the end of the day, Kate won 2005. Its all up to Emily on how she will take herself to the next level of her singing career. With the right management team and the right attitude, Emily will progress to the next level!

  23. Sorry, just wanted to corrct myself – i said sarah and lisa when reffering to the Veronica’s, i ment Jessica and Sarah (if you’re wondering the relevancy of this comment, check my earlier post at December 18th, 2005 at 2:36 am)

    Cheers

  24. Kate DeRogate’s album debut at no. 10 (ARIA chart) only , the worst performance by any top 4 Australian idol who has had a pop album released.

Kate DeRogate is undoubtly a mediocre singer who is doomed as the ultimate fallen idol, deservedly so due to her considerable lack of vocal talent.

She will be remembered as the try-hard porky lady who can’t sing very well but still won the Idol yet failed miserably to sell as many albums.

  25. Hey Keep it Real,

Is it the Christmas harmony in the air? lol I think it is lovely that we are both getting along now! ;-)

I should have explained the “13yrs old and it shows” thing. I suppose that you know by now that I tend to overexplain things and for once I didnt! lol I have a 13rd old daughter myself and well, I put up with the “you know nothing” “THING” on a daily basis, hence the “it shows” part! lol I don’t know. I never spoke to my mother like that, and actually appreciated her knowledge, but it seems the youngens today tend to think they know it all when they, in the scheme of things know squat, and to top it off have no real respect for anyone over the age of their fav popstars or tv celebrity! (which are usually these days teens themselves). I know though that my kids will be getting a culture shock after New Year ( I am working up until then..this season is a busy time for musicians) as we are heading to India; a warts and all tour of the country! THEN my 13yr old will see just how little she DOES knows about the world!

No worries about the migration thing. It was a learning curve for me too and I looked the information up at the Aust Gov Immigration site. I am glad too that you see where I am coming from as to who should and shouldn’t be able to audition, from the temp res/perm res/citizen standpoint.

Guy Sebastian IS a star and his vocal ability, from a technical level is absolutely oustanding! I also have his Cd’s. It is awesome music, and i especially love the 2nd CD has he was able to be more “GUY” on it. Paulini is and always will be a star and although I have never met her, she does come across as a truly genuine person! I was truly gobsmacked when she was not in the final 3 at least in Idol series one!! Never mind though, she did get a contact and one that was well deserved.

As for Emily. I realise that people like her voice. I don’t get the comparing her to Whitney or Mariah thing though..*shudder*, but.. she was obviously popular enough to get to the final 2 for whatever reason. You are right in saying that it IS up to Emily now and a lot of that has to do with grooming herself, not externally but more internally. She has to learn not to blurt out EVERY thought that crosses her mind and the comments she has made and the lies that have been found out, really make it hard for her to be marketable and it is that simple, Keep it. This is not to make the Emily fans feel bad in any way, but I truly believe, that the ONLY chances Emily has of ever being signed is if Mark Holden takes the chance himself after 21/2/2006 or if an independent label takes her on after that time .

  26. Ok, just read that Emily has been signed by Sony BMG. Can anyone confirm this for me? Saw it in my local newspaper. Weired because I cannot find any info about it on teh net.

  27. DIPLOMAT,
WOW… off to India? How exciting but also an interesting experience for your 13 year old. You are right in saying that sometimes they think they know it all, but believe it or not? We can also learn from them as well. However, this will be a real eye opener for your daughter. I tell ya she will be gripping by your side that’s for sure! Have fun… No doubt it will be full-on, but also find time to enjoy the scenery etc when you get there.

I’m actually just a bit younger than you, but have a 18 y/o, 12 and 11 y/o. Yes, they can push me to my limits of the “KNOW HOW, KNOW EVERYTHING” attitude. All n all, its fun having to re-educate them again when they realise they’re wrong! LOL.

Definitely sweet Christmas Harmony in the air and am glad to just step back to know you alot better. My apologies for my own comments to you, but after reading and trying to understand your points of view, you are very knowledgable and have experienced decades of good music. My problem is when I read the “racist slurs”, I couldn’t bring myself to snap out of it unil I stepped myself back to realise what I was doing. I realised, I was no no different to the slurrer!! Sucked in? Yep!! Learnt from it though.

Well you have a great Christmas with your loved ones and enjoy India!!! Don’t forget to take your CD’s!! Once again, take care and Happy New Year too!

  28. Silver Angel,

I too have heard the rumours. Are you in S.A. by chance? Someone I know from there said that Emily herself allegedly announced it at the Carols in Adelaide. I am in a quandry about this for sure as Sony BMG were quite adament that they wouldn’t sign her as they claimed her “style” was far too similar to that of Paulini and other underlying reasons and Sony BMG’s comment regarding their reasoning is on the net media. Time will tell I guess.

    Keep it Real,

Yeah, India! We thought about doing the “happy holiday” family thing, to somewhere “western”(US, Britian, Europe etcc) ,but then realised that Australia pretty much has the whole westerners over indulgence thing down pat, and why go somewhere that things are pretty much the same as home? I believe that vacations should be a time of adventure and soaking in unknown cultures and lifestyles and our kids are now old enough to appreciate this diversity and absorb it. We are all looking forward to it and thank you for your kind bon voyage wishes!

Oh I agree with your comments about our kids being our teachers too! Despite my teenage daughter being a typical teenager, (drama at every turn and if it is there she will find it and make the most of it..lol) She is a wonderful girl and a truly old soul and at times wise beyond her years. I am very proud of the woman she is becoming, despite the teen angst! lol Our other daughter is yet to hit double digits in age, so she is wide eyed about pretty much everything but smart enough not to take her older sister too seriously…lol She is one bright spark!

Apologies this end for any derogatory comments I made to you too! Sometimes though in the heat of discussion things can get out of hand, and we can say (or write) things we don’t REALLY mean, but sure as hell meant them at the time! lol But I truly didn’t take any comment you or anyone made to heart and I hope the same of you. It is human nature to sometimes lash out, especially when the one your lashing out ats opinion is right up the other end of the spectrum! lol I am with you re. all the racism and bigotry. Just something I cannot abide, but I do have to say that you are different to “the slurrer” because you have taken stock and from your end nipped the situation in the bud before worsened. Kudos to you for that.

For all the Emily fans out there, I DO hope the rumour is true that she will be getting or has got the contract. *fingers crossed for all your sakes*

Anyway Keep it Real, I hope you and yours have a wonderful festive season, full of love and happiness. Should I not be around too much, all the best for a fantastic 2006 too! Take care… ;-)

  29. Hey Diplomat,

Just want to say I agree with everything you have said about Emily. The last thing Australia needs is her album. Please tell me it isn’t true, because I read something about it yesterday. I also read somewher that the Song General Manager or whatever his title was would not confirm that Emily was signed but said “watch this space”. Please reassure us she aint gonna get a contract!

    ta

  30. Kate is a winner… Emily, with her high pich screeching voice and MY DAUGHTER bullshit should have been eliminated weeks ago

  31. EMILY SHOULD HAVE WON! ALL I CAN SAY IS, GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR RECORD CONTRACT EM AND SHOW KATE WHO THE AUSSIE IDOL SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!

  32. WELL I SAY GO LEE!! PUSHING KATE TO NUMBER 3 NOW I BELIEVE AFTER ONLY 2 WEEKS! EM AND LEE TO GO ALL THE WAY, ALL THE BEST -XXX-

  33. Go Emily! Great job on scoring a record contract! Get out there and show these aussies why you should have won! Oh and congrats to Lee for getting number 1 this week!

Diplomat: Not wanting an argument with you though do you still feel my friend from Grundy was liaring to me when he said that Emily had been signed by Sony BMG….considering there has now been comformation of this.

    Response:
Hi Emily fan. Sorry hon. I don’t consider Emily saying something as “confirmation” and just because it is in the print media as her comments on a radio interview. Denis Handlin of Sony BMG said some time ago that they wouldn’t be signing Emily and until I see something from Sony themselves, I won’t consider Emily’s comments as anything more than a severe case of her well known foot IN mouth disease.

    Silver Angel,

Denis Handlin ( a Sony head honcho) said Emily would not be signed by Sony. That comment was around 25/11/05. I think at this time, the article you saw in The Advertiser (now the same article pretty much word for word in the telegraph) from the radio interview with Emily cannot be seen as confirmation as sony have not announced anything, and let’s face it, if they are/have signing her they WOULD make it public knowledge, to create “hype” to increase future sales. As I said to Emily fan, I am waiting until Sony say something themselves, because until then I just see it as Emily blowing smoke!

  36. HEY EMILY_FAN

Great to hear from you.. Yes has been a while. Yep, know the feeling of been busy at work, but I enjoy comin’ on-line, breaks the usual dramas you get from work!

Yes, DIPLOMAT is not so bad after all. Been having great conversations and Hey, she even said : –

For all the Emily fans out there, I DO hope the rumour is true that she will be getting or has got the contract. *fingers crossed for all your sakes* That’s a POSITIVE!!

Great person once you put aside the differences. As you’ve probably read, DIPLOMAT’s off to India – how exciting eh?

However, I guess what’s exciting for me WHOSE NOT GOING ANYWHERE FOR XMAS AS I HAVE TO WORK THRU is that if the rumours are true, let’s hope Emily will get that lucky break to produce a great album!!

Thanks for the Xmas Gesture, but wish you and your close ones A GOOD ONE too!! Its been great meeting you on-line!! Take care …

  37. EMILY_FAN
    (Keep it real again)…

Has Sony BMG really signed Emily or is it still just rumours?

With your friend whose in the business, how legit is the confirmation? No doubt, something must be publicized soon – don’t you think? This will be the first case for me to hear that a Runner Up announcing its own contract.

Its true tho, if its only Emily saying it on “The Advertiser”, without Sony’s confirmation, then obviously this is not good for Emily’s image if it back-fires!! (Cross fingers it is true)…

    Look forward to your reply.

  38. Here is the quote about Emily NOT being signed (right at the bottom):

One of this year’s most exciting and energetic Australian Idol finalists Lee Harding has signed a recording deal with SONY BMG Music Entertainment.

Lee’s first infectious single Wasabi was delivered to Australian radio stations yesterday with incredible reaction around the country.

Lee, who is now just as well known for his individual hairstyles as much as his charismatic and lovable nature says “I am really proud to be signed to SONY BMG, it’s home to some of the coolest bands, I cant wait to get into the studio and record the album, to all my fans Rock hard, Rock out & Rock on”.

Denis Handlin, Chairman & CEO SONY BMG Music Australia & NZ adds “We are thrilled to have signed such an enthusiastic young talent, l am really impressed with Lee’s commitment and determination and l know he has an exciting career ahead of him”.

Wasabi will be released as a double A- side single with Lee’s own gritty & rocking take of the 1982 Survivor smash hit Eye of the Tiger. The clip for Wasabi will be shot this week and is expected to be a high energy video shot in stop- motion animation.

Wasabi is released December 11 and will be the first taste of what is to come for Lee with his debut album (yet to be titled) due for release early February 2006 through SONY BMG Music Entertainment.
Themusic.com.au also reports that sources say that SonyBMG won’t be signing runner up Emily Williams citing the reason that she is too similar to SonyBMG artist, Paulini.

  39. Facts: Australian Idol is mostly a visual entertaining show and is watch mostly by kids, hence Kate has some talent and looks better and they voted for her. Kids with their txtin’ you know. I asked my little cousin why she liked Kate, and my older aunty whom speaks little english, said she liked Kate more than Emily because Emily looks ‘mean’. Maybe true, but didn’t mention anything about their singing abilities, mostly on looks.

PLEASE READ THESE and follow the site, CAUSE HERE ARE THE HARD FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1) Emily will get contract
“Sony called me up and basically said ‘we’re not letting another label get you’. So it has been exciting.”
    From: http://www.accessallareas.net.au/News.php#newsitemEEFVpAEAylcTqIdZuc

    2) Kate CD sales FACTSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
    “Not much”
    http://www.undercover.com.au/news/2005/dec05/20051215_idol.html
    http://www.undercover.net.au/news/2005/dec05/20051219_idol.html
    http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,17483964%255E28957,00.html

WHY Kate CD sales FLOP SO BAD Because:
    – Kids download their music! Don’t have or don’t bother to spend their money.
    – For the older folks, there are a few aussie artists coming out with better album than hers and ‘original’ too.
    – Christmas is here! And people have other things to buy.

I listened to Emily once, when Aus idol was in its earlier stage. WOW! One performance and it was Awesome. That is how music should be people!! Mind-grabbing!! How good is James Blunt’s voice when you first heard his “beautiful” single.

I’ve never watch any reality show what so ever, not big brother, survivor, or othe dozens out there, but I did vote vote for the first time for Emily. An Aussie-NZ (ie: not American/Eglish/Canadian) with a Gem of a voice like that.

  40. Mani,

The article you got the quote “Sony called me up and basically said ‘we’re not letting another label get you’. So it has been exciting” is a portion from an interview WITH Emily. There has been no confirmation from Sony Bmg themselves and until there is, I will take her comments with a grain of salt. Sony BMG as of yesterday when I spoke to people there, had no information as to her being signed by them. So, who would YOU believe? Here is a tip. bookmark http://www.sonybmg.com.au and check it every few days on the offchance they announce Emily’s signing! lol

Onto the undercover editorials by Paul Cashmere. Mr Cashmere has had it “in” for Idols and the whole Idol phenomenon since day one. Kate is just his current whipping girl. He is making a big deal about lack of store sales, however fails to mention that MANY music stores across Australia did not get their copies of Kate’s album until Tuesday and through to Thursday of last week, hence having a negative effect on sales. If the album isn’t in store, people cannot buy them and it is that simple. Not to have an album ready on the shelves at release date, and in some stores not until 5 days after release date is sure to have a negative impact on Aria chart position. Another thing. Albums downloaded from the net are not included in the Aria Charts, as they have their own charting system totally separate from ARIA.
Mr Cashmere also failed to state the fact that album purchases across the board (not just Idols) are down 20% this Christmas. The industry is saying that the whole picture is diabolical!

As for your comments on how you perceive Emily’s voice. To each their own. As for James Blunt. Hmm.. I have to say he is “unique”, but in my opinion hardly gobsmackingly wonderful. That has nothing to do with him personally though. I am still reeling at some reviewers claiming he has the songwriting talents of Cat Stevens. ( I shuddered at the comparison as cat Stevens is a legend…Mr Blunt is a blink in time). As I said though…to each their own.

Despite our differences. Merry Christmas to you.

  41. Hello Diplomat!
    Merry Xmas to you too!
I think the reason why Emily hasn’t got a contract yet, because SonyBMG is waiting to see what’s happenning with Kate and Lee’s CDs first, then maybe move on to Dan and Emily contracts/career, just a guess.

As to me quoting Paul Cashmere, I just want to point out some of the early figures of Kate CD sales that’s all. I couldn’t care less what he thinks of the Idols. My litlle cousins with broadband and all of their classmates download their music through share-ware, hence these figures do not reflect on the legitimate-pay download.

Her albulm debut at no. 10. hhhmmm! $22/CD is a lot to fork out for. Well I guess it’s early days, lets have this chat again in 2 weeks time, shall we!

  42. Mani,

I would love to have this chat in 2 weeks time, but as I am heading for India, I don’t know if I will be able to access the net readily and as I will be on hols, I don’t think I will want to anyway! lol

The point I was making re Paul Cashmere, is in his scathing comments, he didn’t take the realities into account, LIKE the download facilities etc. He and her album debuting at #10 on the Aria Charts is not a true reflection of “sales” across the board, but he is such a twerp the facts don’t come into the equation.

Tah for the Chrissy wishes too! Take care.
