The Uplate Game Show With Hotdogs

Not long after Hotdogs was evicted from the Big Brother house, he signed a deal with Network Ten for his own show. The show, “The Uplate Game Show” would take the place of “Big Brother Uplate” that was hosted by Mike Goldman.

While Big Brother was running, Uplate with Mike Goldman worked. He would talk about the day that just passed, show snippets of what happened during the day and live feeds from the house. While that was going on, there were also little brain teaser type games being played – an anagram game for instance.

This however, is in stark contrast to The Uplate Game Show. One of the primary reasons it worked with Mike Goldman, was the audience were watching to find out about the craze that is Big Brother. Unfortunately for Hotdogs, he doesn’t have any of that – which leaves him with pointless games and his lack luster hosting ability.

The last couple of times I’ve seen it before going to bed, he is calling people that have registered on his list. Problem is, the show is that boring that once they register they don’t watch it again. Last night again, he called three people who were in bed, the call went something like this (my emphasis and paraphrasing):

Hotdogs: HI!!!!, this is Hotdogs from the Uplate Game show!!!11one
Them: umm, heelllloo.. who is it again..?
Hotdogs: Its Hotdogs!!!!11one, did you register on the Uplate Game Show list????
Them: umm, sorry.. you’ll have to speak a little slower
Hotdogs: The Uplate Game Show, did you register???
Them: umm, no I didn’t.. maybe it was my daughter but she has been in bed for 3 hours already
Hotdogs: well I guess I don’t get to give away a prize tonight then
Them: nope, sorry.

If that isn’t bad enough, imagine the worst TV host you can. Now imagine them on TV for an hour and a half a night, with absolutely no content to discuss at all. It isn’t an entertainment show, he doesn’t discuss any current events at all – its just him, his Uplate list (that no one is awake for), the crap games and him babbling for the whole thing repeating himself over and over.

I can’t believe that the show is on TV, it is appalling.

  9. Its weird how a show can be on at 12:00 at night yet it can be so addictive though, i believe hotdogs has great ability keeping viewers interesting because he always has something to say, i just cant fall asleep when i know hotdogs is on. . . if i only i could call in, im in qld :(

  10. There is only one dog!!! Ilogged onto this site when it started as I love to hear from my critics. However the person responsible for this website take a good hard look at your self… Just coz I slept with ur girlfriend and she looooooooooooooooved it doesn mean u should go to these lengths. Any way u started a website for peopole that hate me and it is failing. But get back up ur horse… I mean girlfriend and get on with life. Jealousy is a wicked curse. All you are doing is keeping me out there any publicity is good publicity:-). To all my fans u will get a special mention on the show!

    In other words, whenever you people are able to say that you make more than 100 thousand dollars in any three month period, for about 2 hours work per night, you can tease me all you like

    I’m going to assume that you are the real deal, based on information you have inadvertently provided.

    First and foremost, this is my opinion and I remain stedfast that your show is just a money grabbing exercise. Secondly, you and I haven’t met and my wife considers you and your show just as much a joke as I do – so there is no need to blatantly lie.

    If I were to give you some constructive criticism, it would be as follows:

    • You need to have enough content in each small block so that you aren’t repeating yourself all the time. The fact that you are repeating yourself just drives the point home to your audience that there is limited content on the show.
    • Try and avoid looking away from the live camera. You seem to be looking at someone or something (teleprompter maybe) constantly. Having your eyes move away from the camera shooting you is very obvious and it looks as though you need help/prompting from other people to do your job.
    • Try extending your vocabulary as much as you can. I realise you’re limited to some degree by the type of the show and format, however anything you can do in that area would also be a benefit I think.
    • This isn’t something that is probably under your control or something you can influence but I’d recommend improving the on screen graphics. As it stands, they look very cheap and nasty – your show would present better if it looked just a little more professional.

    That’ll do for now, we’ll see if it has an impact in the future.

Its on at primetime for god sake, most shows airing at this time are very repetitive, lets use the buying show, were it repeats itself over and over and over, hotdogs isnt too repetitive for the timeslot it is at, but yer maybe looking at the camera a little more is a good idea, though when i watch it i dont really see anything wrong with it

    If i were to reccomend anything, it would be to take 4 or so callers at a time, which would lead to not having to speak as long during waiting to take the callers, and maybe have some material planned out before the show to talk about, people dont really care what it is at that time of night, they just want something.

    Now remember a while back how an interview was done live on your show, that was pretty cool, i think interviews taking place should happen sometimes, it doesnt matter if this person isnt that great, for instance B105 interviewed Courtney from australian idol (the crossdressor) which isnt too big of a star, but it was stil interesting.

    By the way, I’m interested in the age of you guys, who are staying up to watch hotdogs.

  18. JJ21 i watched it last night and i have to agree with you, i noticed an improvement. Either i was very tired. . but it seemed that he was taking callers alot more frequently, and also during waiting for calls he sat down and read out some interesting news, something about a guy stuffing ice cream into mail boxes.

    I wonder if hotdogs actually does come here, because this has got to be the biggest source of chat about the show anywere, his website forum is pretty empty. And oh yer J21 i dont make an effort either to stay up for it, i just usually find myself up at 12:30 for different reasons

  21. hey hot dogs man, you’ve sold your soul to the devil and he’s not gonna give it back how does it feel to work late, sleep-in all day and not have a life. not to mention that you lie to people oh yer lets give you some cash for the weekend, i was a winner and it took 3 and a half weeks to get my check in the mail and i couldn’t even get it cashed straight it had to go into my bank account then i had to withdraw it causing me to miss out on about $40 worth of interest that month that’s heaps on a $200 prize

  25. I’m patiently waiting for hotdogs to come on, sometimes i get a feeling that i should complain to channel 10. Channel 10 show nothing good at 11:00 cept crap, so i think they should lower the time of hotdogs to about 10, it would be very awesome for people like me who have to wake up for work, but still if it doesnt happen i will definetly make an effort to stay up.

  35. Hello guys, hella gals, now lets put it like this, hotdogs, his new to the business, yes we all know, and he was basically shoved on a set every night, having to host a show for 1:30 hours.

    NOW. . . for someone put onto a show like this, with probably NO acting practice in the past, i would say he does the best he can.

    But offcoarse their are alot of negative points that come along with the show, even the big fans have to admit this, some of these negative things may be as follows :

    -Hotdogs does repeat himself quite a bit, but then offcoarse his talking to himself, theres not a lot you can say to yourself

    -The show may look A bit shabby, but its just a fun gameshow at a very late time, which live shows at that time don’t need to be all glitz and glammor, for the reason that theres not a big group of people awake at that time

    -The amount of money given away is not as high as most shows, but then again as above its late, on every night a small show in itself

    -Alot of Australia does not have the ability to play this game, which doesnt really give them states too much reason to watch, since the games fun is within calling in, just like the fun in a pokey machine is playing it to win

    With all that said, the game is still quite active, it gets in callers, meaning people show interest in the game, and theres no real reason to ban the show, its not really taking over any “good” shows because of its time slot, and at time it can have an entertainment value.

    I wish they’d at least give him a co-host, someone to bounce off, someone who doesn’t stutter and go back, and pick the wrong words to sayings..

    But I see they fixed the horrible spelling that I was complaining about a while ago.

    And I’m glad they upped the quality of the show. They’re actually using ELECTRICITY in the SET now. Wooow.

  48. Very frustrating to try & play – yes, I know that’s the point as each call costs about 55 cents. However, after several attempts I was pleased tonight to be told by the operator that I had been successful and to stay on line in case I was chosen. Immediately after that statement, I received the ‘engaged’ signal which meant I had been cut off!! When trying again immediately, I was told that I was not successful!!! Not happy hot dogs…..won’t be trying again if that’s what happens when you get through….
